Oksen designed by Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen is a lounge chair with aluminium base and upholstery in leather. It is large, impressive and extremely comfortable. Oksen was produced in a very short period of time and is therefore a rather rare Jacobsen chair. In contrast to many of his earlier pieces that are characterized by rounded, organic forms, this chair has a much sharper outline and the reviews from its presentation in 1966 were mostly surprised: “This is also how he can be: Angular and with a touch of martial temperament that we could call Germanic or perhaps most properly Japanese in expression.” Today the chair is a striking example of Jacobsen’s pronounced sense of expressive furniture design.
